In 2016, the PE Institute for Urbanism of Vojvodina, together with its partners, competed with the project proposal Development of a transitional road in the area of Kubekhaza - Rabe, within the Interreg IPA cross-border cooperation program between Hungary and Serbia. The participants in the project are the Hungarian National Agency for Infrastructure - NIF, which is the leading partner, as well as the PE Institute for Urbanism of Vojvodina and PE Roads of Serbia.
The current project was approved for funding in February 2017, and the donor agreement was signed in October of the same year. It is worth 5.4 million euros, of which 4.6 million euros were allocated to NIF. The project envisages the creation of spatial conditions, preparation of planning documentation, construction of a new and rehabilitation of the existing road in the area of the state border Hungary-Serbia. The project Development of a Road Border Crossing at Kübekháza (HU) - Rabe (SRB) area is fixed for 36 months, so the realization is expected to be completed by October 2019.
This IPA project brings multiple benefits, both for the border municipalities in both countries and for the northern part of Banat. The new border crossing will significantly relieve the existing border crossings and facilitate traffic. Considering that it is of great national and interstate importance, the project is part of the Memorandum signed by the Prime Ministers of the Republic of Hungary and the Republic of Serbia.
